Two-dimensional nonlocal electron transport in laser-produced plasmas.

چکیده
Much effort has been devoted to the study of nonlocal electron transport in laser-produced plasmas.'J Most of the work has involved the numerical solution of the electron Fokker-Planck (FP) equation in one dimension by finite difference techniques. Comparisons with standard fluid transport calculations using Spitzer-Harm (SH)3 heat flow 2, = K ~ T has revealed the occurrence of hot-electron "preheat," as well as reduced penetration of the bulk heat front, a phenomenon known as "flux inhibition."' To simulate the latter effect, fluid codes are normally equipped with an artificial flux limiter, which maintains the heat flux q below some fraction f of its free-streaming limit qf = nm(Tlm)312, i.e., q = _q,l(l + I _q,lfqf 1 ).4,5

Numerical fluid solutions for nonlocal electron transport in hot plasmas: Equivalent diffusion versus nonlocal source
Flux limitation and preheat are important processes in electron transport occurring in laser produced plasmas. The proper calculation of both of these has been a subject receiving much attention over the entire lifetime of the laser fusion project. Where nonlocal transport (instead of simple single flux limit) has been modeled, it has always been with what we denote the equivalent diffusion sol...
متن کاملQuenching of the nonlocal electron heat transport by large external magnetic fields in a laser-produced plasma measured with imaging thomson scattering.
We present a direct measurement of the quenching of nonlocal heat transport in a laser-produced plasma by applying large external magnetic fields (>10 T). The temporally resolved Thomson-scattering measurements of the electron temperature profile show that the heat front propagation transverse to a high-power laser beam is slowed resulting in extremely strong local heating. We find agreement wi...
متن کاملUltrarelativistic Electron-Positron Plasma
Ultrarelativistic electron-positron plasmas can be produced in high-intensity laser fields and play a role in various astrophysical situations. Their properties can be calculated using QED at finite temperature. Here we will use perturbative QED at finite temperature for calculating various important properties, such as the equation of state, dispersion relations of collective plasma modes of p...
متن کاملU. KORTSHAGEN AND B. HEIL: ACCEPTED FOR PUBLICATION IN IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON PLASMA SCIENCE 1 Kinetic two-dimensional modeling of inductively coupled plasmas based on a hybrid kinetic approach
| In this paper we present a two-dimensional kinetic model for low-pressure inductively coupled discharges. The kinetic treatment of the plasma electrons is based on a hybrid kinetic scheme in which the range of electron energies is divided into two subdomains: In the low energy range the electron distribution function is determined from the traditional nonlocal approximation. In the high energ...
متن کاملPicosecond x-ray laser interferometry of dense plasmas.
We present the first results from picosecond interferometry of dense laser-produced plasmas using a soft x-ray laser. The picosecond duration and short wavelength of the 14.7 nm Ni-like Pd laser mitigates effects associated with motion blurring and refraction through millimeter-scale plasmas. This enables direct measurement of the electron-density profile to within 10 microm of the target surfa...
